Load standard paper in one tray and photo paper in the other, and you can switch back and forth between standard printing and photos without having to swap paper every time. You can load one type of paper in each tray, but you might want to load one of the most frequently used in the tray sticking out from the back, because the front gives better protection from dust. Another nice touch is the automatic duplexing, allowing you to print on both sides of the page.
Performance photos too fast, averaging 1:18 for each print 4-by-6 and 3:12 for each 8-by-10. It easily beat all the current printer in its price range, but we rated at the high end of very good, rather than excellent, because it's slower than iP4000 and IP3000, which are both about 10 seconds faster for a 4-by-6 and around 35 seconds faster for the 8-by-10. According to Canon, iP4200 design required little slow printhead to ensure proper placement of small drops, which is as small as 1 picoliter, compared with 2 picoliters for the iP4000's smallest drops.
